Wow it has been a long time since I last updated this page. I haven't become a millionaire yet but with the country going through such a bad time at the moment just keeping your head above water and surviving is a feat in itself. Well I have been very busy churning out web sites as I attempt to make my fortune. Between that my hobbies and love for big boys toys tech and gadgets has got worse so I really need to make as much as I can to feed that habit lol

I did try to post something here a while back but I forgot my password (like you do) and I was too lazy to sort it out so today with a few spare minutes available I decided to sort it out and tell the world that this site isn't dead and from now on it is onwards and upwards, stay tuned.

You then nominate a landline number for this 087 number to be forwarded to when dialled. Have it forwarded to your own landline number, in other words your home phone. Give your new 087 number to everyone, banks, credit card companies and anyone else that ever asks you for your contact number (apart from your close friends and family unless your really tight)..

I managed to make quite a substantial saving today by switching my ISP and phone line to Talk Talk. For a fee of £9.00 a month they are offering free telephone calls, still an £11.00 a month BT line rental charge but FREE broadband for life... This was through the Carphone Warehouse... I was paying NTL £25.00 a month, BT £11 for line rental and Sky around £6.00 for calls (free after 6.00pm) so in total £21.01 a month saving or £252.12 a year.

Sorry for the recent lack of updates, I have had a hell of a couple of months. My father required a triple hear bypass, he contacted the MRSA bug and a new business venture of mine needed some attention or risk going bust...

My father is well on the way to a full recovery, my business venture that I shall right about shortly has pulled through so hopefully this will be a new chapter in my life. Large department stores in the are are charging £35.00 to deliver a fridge freezer or washing machine, obviously I will need help so I shall request at the time of the call for someone to help me or it will be an extra £5.00. The extra £5.00 will enable me to pay my father to pop along and lend a hand.

Week Three - Boost Required

I have decided that I need to boost my income, we are only on week three and I am hitting a low earlier than I expected. Not a low with savings but a low in myself wondering if I will reach my dream. I keep telling myself its a marathon not a sprint but I feel like I have been in first gear the first two weeks so its time to take a look at what I am good at and capitalise. I do own a small van so this can be put to work, some of the ideas I am considering:

1) Start a garden maintenance service and try and build up a regular round of customers whose gardens need to be kept in good order. This will involve weed control, pruning, hedge trimming, lawn mowing and edging.

2) Small removals is a service that is always in demand. Particularly in the larger towns and cities. A man with a van collecting and delivering items such as fridges, cookers and 3 piece suites for people might find this a good little money earner.

3) Offer a gutter cleaning service. Gutter cleaning is a dirty job, but someone has to do it. If you don`t mind heights and getting your hands and clothes dirty, this could be a good way to make extra cash.

4) Start a pet food delivery service. Pet food deliveries can be useful to many individuals, particularly old and disabled people who find difficulty in getting out and about. Obtaining a stock of popular foods at competitive prices will also be an advantage and something I shall have to look into.

My badges arrived and I have re-listed them on eBay in groups of 5 (see day five). At the moment I feel very much held back, I realise that you need money to make money and I do not want to turn this blog into a how to make money on eBay blog.

I would love to have the spare cash to go forward with my Landlord on the cheap idea but I haven’t and I must remain focussed on what I can achieve. I have an idea which I am going to look into today and if its as good as I think it will be I shall report back tomorrow on it.

It was shopping day today, with swapping to a few stores own brands I managed to save £12.00 this week and on the buy one get one free I have added a couple more items to my box in the garage. The £12.00 I saved on shopping will this week be placed into my float and transferred to the bank account when all payments for the closed eBay auctions have been received.

I also heard from the credit card company today that my application was successful so once it arrives I will be able to switch over to the cheaper rate. I intend to continue with the same payment I was making on my old card as I need to get the balance down as quickly as possible. It will be nice seeing that my payments actually make a difference instead of making a £100 payment only to see £80 going back on in interest.

As I enter week two my ebay auctions have all closed for the panties (see Day Three). The seller I was worried about who had bid on all 10 pairs to combine postage ended up with just 2 pairs, 5 pairs sold on the buy-it-now and after eBay listing fee's have been taken out then I am £13.55p in profit. Remembering my new outlook on money this is a possible £700 a year.

My DVD's have also closed and a total profit of £26.00 was made. So a grand total of £54.55 at the end of week one with very little effort. In fact writing this blog has taken more time than making the £54.55 which if I can repeat for the next 51 weeks will net me £2782.05. Not enough to achieve my aim but things have only just started....

Become a Landlord On The Cheap

Assuming you already have a property which has a mortgage on it, you would be allowed to purchase further properties on Buy-to-Let mortgages as long as you can put down 15% deposit each time. Let’s face it though, not many people have this kind of money spare and if they do they probably would not be following this blog.

So what if I detail a perfectly legal way around this deposit problem, a way around it which has been tried and tested by numerous people including a close friend of mine.

Apartment blocks and converted factories are sprouting up everywhere, what you need to do is get in early on one and make an appointment to meet with the builder. We shall take an average 2 bedroom apartment price of £150k, you ask the builder how much discount he will you give you if you buy more than one.

The builders will usually come back with 8%, 10% maximum, this is where you ask for a 15% discount, if he says no wait, move on to the next one but leave some contact details just in case he changes his mind. Be patient, you will find the builder that is willing to offer 15% which is about £20k on each one. This £20k is now the deposit money for the mortgage. However, it's not that simple because you have to do it as a cash back and you only get the cash back once the house completes, so in theory you don't have the £20k to give them until after the house goes through which is too late.

The way around this is to write a cheque to your solicitor for the deposit money which he cashes and then gives to the mortgage lenders. What the solicitor must do is hold fire on the cheque process until you have the cleared cash back in your account. Everyone happy, everyone gets their money. You will also need to have proof that your mortgage payments will be made up by the rental income of the property, which is all part of the valuation process. It used to be that the rental was 125% of your mortgage, now with Northern Rock it's only 100%

You will probably have to find a couple of thousand for solicitor fee's and stamp duty but would you mind that if you have two apartments, being rented out for the cost of your mortgage knowing that when the 20 year mortgage is up they are yours. Better than any retirement plan and as they rise in value over the years you could always consider selling them.

Day Eight - Credit Card

After a little research I managed to find a credit card offering 5.9% interest on balance transfers for the life of the transfer. Okay the 12.9% for purchases is not great but the idea is to transfer my £8,000 worth of credit card debt and carry on paying the same amount that I have become used to paying. There are plenty of 0% for 6 months but I need to look at this long term. Money Supermarket is a good place for card comparisons.

Barclays Bank are offering new customers an interest free £5,000 overdraft if you pay in £1,000 a month for 12 months.

If you have £1,000 or you are able to borrow £1,000 for 3-4 days why not:

Day 1 - Pay £1,000 into your new account.
Day 2 - Write a cheque for £1,000 and pay back the person you borrowed it from.
Day 3 - Write a £4,000 cheque and place it in an online 5% interest account.

This will leave you £4,000 overdrawn but interest free, so each month write yourself a cheque for £1,000 and pay it into the account, this will keep you within the Barclays terms and conditions of paying in £1,000 a month into the account.

At the end of the year, you withdraw your savings of £4,000 and pay off your overdraft, this then leaves you the interest of £200 for free. If you do this with a partner and two accounts then its a total of £400 in 12 months.

You could always use the £4,000 to pay a chunk off your credit card for 12 months and save a lot of interest repayments but make sure you can transfer it back after 12 months.

Day Seven - Progress

My auctions are doing quite well, the panty auctions finish tomorrow, the same person has bid on all 10 pairs at 99p which is a potential problem as she will ask to combine postage. One thing I cannot do is lose money at such an early stage so I need more bids. Its a lesson to learn if I repeat the excercise, hopefully someone will come in and save me.

The DVD's have all received bids, all under £2.00 but its early days.

I have a spare bit of time now so I am going to look into credit card rates and compare a few online. I am currently paying way over the top in interest and its one of those things that everyone knows about (switching to a lower rate) but if like me you sit there thinking "I cannot be bothered to keep switching. " But what is the point in trying to save a few £'s on take-aways if I am allowing it to be eaten up on over the top interest rates.

Day Six - Take Away

Tonight is take-away night as we both work till 8.00pm. I want to save money but I still want to keep quality of life. This set me thinking, we always receive free popadoms with the order yet I always order two and end up leaving some. I always tip the guy £2.00 as he smiles nice and it always arrives quickly, I do not want to loose the great service we get but what if...

I tip him £1.00 instead, I do not order £1.00 worth of popadoms and I select something from the menu £1.00 cheaper than I usually do...

Now I feel good, I have saved a possible £156 a year and I am still having a take-away tonight, must remember to put the £3.00 saving in my float tin after I have ordered....

Day Five - Found Some Wholesale

I have found a seller on eBay under wholesale and job lots, he has 100 one inch badges of varied design selling at £16.00 and free postage on a Buy It Now. I am going to purchase these, divide them into groups of 5 badges and re-list them. I think a price of 99p for 5 with £1.25 postage should be fine.

I shall leave eBay alone for a week, I do not wish to turn this into a make money on eBay blog and it needs to remain fun, not a full time job.

Day Five - Around The Home

Looking through my collection of DVD's, there are several I haven't watched for months, in fact I have watched them once and will never watch them again. I have decided to list 5 of them on eBay, a starting price of just £1.00 because I know I can charge £2.50 postage and this alone will get me £1.50 profit per DVD.

Day Four - Shopping

After walking around Tesco getting the weekly shop I decided to see how much I could save on offers and brand changing. We needed shower Gel, I switched from Radox to Palmolive, it was 50p cheaper and buy one get one free. Dishwasher tablets were also on a buy one get one free offer and a whopping £1.20 cheaper than the brand I had been using.

I had placed a magazine in the trolly and as usual I had managed to read most of it whilst waiting for the wife to walk up and down each aisle. This time instead of paying for it and taking it home, I put it back on the shelf, £5.99 I could do without spending. Bleach was buy one get one free as were the tea bags and just by changing a few brands I worked it out I had saved £15.00..

As this was £15.00 saved at shopping I decided to deposit it into my Flex Account on the way home remembering this is not a possible £15.00 a week but £780 a year. On the buy one get one free offers, I placed the the 'freebies' in a large box in the garage. My longer term aim with these is t build up enough 'freebies' to allow me one very cheap weeks shopping.

I also used my club card to collect the loyalty points and made myself a promise to take better advantage of the stores loyalty rewards program.

Day Three - eBay Postage

I am going to attempt to cash in on the average users ignorance when it comes to eBay and postage charges. I have taken a trip to the wholesalers and purchased a pack of 10 Jiffy bags (they are the size of a DVD case) cost £1.10p. I have also been into town and after a quick look around, I came away from BHS with 10 pairs of womens panties costing 99p a pair.

I have listed these on eBay at 99p a pair, I have a buy it now price of £1.49 and a postage and packing charge of £1.49. I have already checked with the post office the weight to send a pair in a jiffy bag is the same as a first class letter just 27p. With the envelopes costing 11p each I stand to make £1.11p postage on each pair that I sell.

Day Two - My Perspective

The way I look at money must change if I am going to make this work and I must look at how much I can save or make in a year, not in a day. The best way to explain this is look at a simple example:

1) You find some junk laying around, you sell it on eBay for £5.00
2) You change just a couple of brands on your weekly shop and save £5.00
3) You drive your car a little slower or catch a lift just once and save £2.50 petrol
4) You cannot do without your take-away, look at the price, get something cheaper save £2.5
5) You currently spend £2.00 on lottery tickets, Stop now FACT - you have more chance of being hit by a plane.

Now this is five very simple things to cut back on, smokers can cut back and save even more. I would have looked at this previously and my first thought would have been a £17.00 saving is not going to change my life. This is where I must change my outlook if I am to succeed. I must look at this as a continued yearly saving of £884.00 a year or just over £73.00 a month!!

What could £884 a year do or £73.00 a month, lets look at just one example, based on a £100,000 mortgage over 25 years at an interest rate of 5.75%. Using this £884 as an overpayment on the mortgage would bring it down to 20 years and save £20,236.68.

Day One - The Tools

I have opened a new bank account with no overdraft arrangement, a simple online account with the Nationwide. I already have a Flex account with them so requesting an eSaver account was easy and its just the type of account I am looking for.

Money can only be transferred online
Decent interest rate
Not easy to take money out

This is partly for so that I can visually see the savings I am making as they build and partly as an incentive. I must add here that I do not use my Flex Account, or I hadn’t up until now. It has no direct debits coming out and its my gateway in and out of the eSavings account.

I have linked my Paypal account into my Nationwide Flex account as I also intend on using eBay in my attempt to be debt free.

Day One - Around The Home

I guess the first rule in making money is learning when to save it and not spend money unnesessarrily. I can start at home with this, we are all guilty in this house of too many take-aways, a trip in the car when we could have walked, extravagence when out shopping, having windows open and the heating left on, televisions on stand-by and lights left on around the home. Although I will not see the savings I can hopefully look forward to smaller bills.

Day One - The Aim

My aim is to be debt free with a healthy bank balance in three years time. When I say debt free I mean all apart from my mortgage although if the chance came to pay that off I wouldn't say no.

I wish to do this with no more than a £50.00 starting float and I do not want to loose what some would call 'quality of life'. I am a human being who needs holidays, I need to eat some nice food and I do not want to get a second job working 16 hours a day.

I am married with three step children and I have decided to start this blog as a reference and to place a little pressure on myself to keep things going when it gets tough. So armed with a money box, £50.00 and my computer lets begin.
